Word Poems

Poet at Rest
The word poem is an original form that starts with the listing of precisely rhyming words.* A poem is then constructed which uses as many of the words on this list as possible.

As to look on the page, the entire poem is generally centered — with the rhyming word italicized and centered by itself serving as the rhyming end to the previous line.**

The longer lines that set up the rhyming word do not rhyme, and have no particular length or rhythm.

Consider the short example of a word poem at this blog. The king of the word poems is "The Tycoon Who Craved Macaroon" — also a narrative poem.

Poems similar to the word style have certainly been written, but the genre not defined as such — nor had a number of pieces meeting the definition been created.***

*with matched spelling of the rhyming part preferred, but not necessary.
**alternate approaches possible.
***I've written a couple dozen word poems at this point.

"All My Hopes In Thee"

All my hopes in thee are
lodged
All my pain and torture
dodged
Life itself I have
hodged
All the pieces you have
podged.
