“I will not be used as a tool for their purposes. I am not a token, mammy or little brown bobble head. I am not owned by Lack, Griffin or MSNBC. I love our show. I want it back.”

"Little Brown Bobble Head"
"Nonbelievers"
“It’s not a school about creationism or a biblical understanding of the world. This is a school where we hope there will be as many Muslim students and nonbelievers as Episcopalians. A community of spirituality doesn’t need a specific deity. We want same-sex parents, and we want Somali refugee parents. This is a school where we’ll light the menorah and take communion.”

"In Love With America"
"When I was a kid we were in love with America. As early as I can remember, there was a civics class in my public school. And I was in love with those things that guaranteed freedom . . I had a Bill of Rights and a Constitution, those words out of the Declaration that protected me. And I knew about that because we had civics in class. We don’t have that much in the country anymore. So before World War II or shortly after, we were in love with America because we understood what it was about and that’s what we were in love with. . I’d like to go back to civics lessons.”
"A Total Social Conservative"
“Everybody knows me to be a progressive or a liberal or lefty or whatever. I think of myself as a bleeding-heart conservative. You will not f— with my Bill of Rights, my Constitution, my guarantees of political justice for all. But does my heart bleed for those who need help and aren’t getting the justice that the country promises them and the equal opportunity the country promises? Yes. I’m a bleeding heart, but I think myself to be a total social conservative."

"No Flag"
“[F]reedom of speech, in a space that aims to be as inclusive as possible[,] can be interpreted as hate speech . . Let it be resolved that ASUCI make every effort to make the Associated Students main lobby space as inclusive as possible . . Let it further be resolved that no flag, of any nation, may be hanged on the walls of the Associate Student main lobby space.”

"Not Above Congress"
“So long as the chairman continues to insist on secrecy, we will continue calling for more transparency and accountability at the commission. Chairman Wheeler and the FCC are not above Congress.”House Oversight Committee chairman, Jason Chaffetz (R/Utah) and Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton (R/Mich.)

"Nearly a Decade of Precedent"
"To attempt to impose a full-blown Title II regime now, when the classification of cable broadband has always been as an information service, would reverse nearly a decade of precedent, including findings by the Supreme Court that this classification was proper."

"The New Floor"
“This administration has been more restrictive and more challenging to the press, more dangerous to the press, really, than any administration in American history. In terms of legal investigation . . and I think access to the White House has just gotten worse and worse. I’m worried that whatever happens with this administration, that’s the new floor for the next administration. And that we’ll never regain access, ability to do reporting, ability to do our job unless we just constantly fight the battle. . We have a role in our democracy and we can’t do it if the president and his administration don’t recognize it.”

"In the Context of Sports"
"I don’t know what she means that it’s a racial slur. It’s not a racist slur if it originates from a Native American tribe. . . . It’s always used in the context of sports."
Mckenzie Lameman, student government president
Red Mesa High School

"Jawbone a Reporter"
“My view is the White House has no right to touch a pool report. It’s none of their business. If they want to challenge something by putting out a statement of their own, that’s their right. It’s also their prerogative to jawbone a reporter, which often happens. But they have no right to alter a pool report unilaterally.”

Black Female Professor Misbehaves
“If she appears smiling on camera, she is ‘wearing the mask,’ that is, she is hiding her actual state through a strategy of self-presentation that is a cultural legacy of slavery.”
“I may be a thief, but you’re a terrorist.”

"Once-Revered Repositories of the Humanities"
"Parents are beginning to see that this is a $65,000-a-year scam that won't get their kids a job in an economy that wants quantification skills. Parents and students increasingly will flee the politicized nut-houses for apolitical MOOCs—massive open online courses.
Still, it's a tragedy. The loonies are becoming the public face of some once-revered repositories of the humanities."

"So They Put His Head on a Pike"
“the poor guy’s girlfriend (undoubtedly ex-girlfriend by now) is on tape cajoling him into revealing his racism. Man, what a winding road she led him down to get all of that out. She was like a sexy nanny playing ‘pin the fried chicken on the Sambo.’ She blindfolded him and spun him around until he was just blathering all sorts of incoherent racist sound bites that had the news media peeing themselves with glee . . (catching) big game on a slow news day, so they put his head on a pike, dubbed him Lord of the Flies, and danced around him whooping.”
"The Creepy Part"
". . the creepy part is when you get taped in your own house and then that goes to the world. Again, no one here is defending Don Sterling, but that's what's creepy to me is that we can't even speak in our own house anymore. I don't know how the tape gets out there, I don't know why it's legal. But I am much more concerned about things like that than I am the NSA . ."

"We Have to Start Managing These Lands"
"Those of us who live in the rural areas know how to take care of lands. We have to start managing these lands. It’s the right thing to do for our people, for our environment, for our economy and for our freedoms."Montana state Senator Jennifer Fielder at Legislative Summit on the Transfer for Public Lands
