Boogie Woogie-ing on By

At 97 he had a good long life. Things to remember about Joseph William "Pinetop" Perkins . .
  • He started out on guitar, but when a fight with a choir girl hurt his tendon he switched to piano;
  • He got the nickname "Pinetop" from playing Clarence "Pinetop" Smith's "Pinetop's Boogie Woogie", originally performed by latter in 1928; and
  • He won a Grammy award a month prior to his death for a traditional blues album, making him the oldest Grammy award winner ever (beating out even George Burns).
May he boogie-woogie for all Eternity.
