| Northeast Storytellers Annual Cookout |
At this year's Northeast Storytellers cookout at Brooke Cullen's place in Barton, we finally got around to honoring our recently fallen poet member and friend, George Mathon — who passed away in March after a long, courageous fight with recurrent cancer.
Reading from his poems in his latest published book, Killers, we'd just finished passing it around and reading a poem each when the coyotes on a nearby hill kicked in with a spirited, yippy wailing.
It certainly sounded to us like they were saying "goodbye" to George, too — or maybe he was saying "hello" to us. George is still very much with us, though passed.
