Northeast Storytellers Host Haiku Workshop on April 22nd in West Burke

2017 NATIONAL POETRY MONTH EVENTS IN NORTHEAST KINGDOM

For the third year running, the Northeast Storytellers will host a haiku workshop in West Burke, Vermont as part of the 2017 National Poetry Month activities. The workshop will take place at the West Burke Library on Saturday, April 22nd from 1-3pm, and will be conducted by Judy Hishikawa.

The focus of this workshop will be on writing haiku — a popular Japanese style of poetry — taking participants from a study of the classic form and its underlying structural dynamics, to writing their own originals. Workshop leader Judy Hishikawa lived and taught language in Japan, and now resides in West Burke. She is the Northeast Storytellers’ haiku poet. Chapbooks of her poetry will be available.

National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996 and is held every April throughout the country. It is the largest literary celebration in the world — with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry’s vital role in our lives.

All Northeast Storyteller events are free and open to the public. Everybody is welcome to attend. For more information on the workshop please email instructor Judith Hishikawa on hishikawasensei@hotmail.com or call 201.519.3633.
