Lerner, former Director, Exempt Organizations, Internal Revenue Service, in contempt of Congress for refusal to comply with a subpoena duly issued by the Committee on Oversight & Government Reform. 231 voted for the resolution — all but these 6 were Republican — and 187 voted against — all Democrats.

The six Democrats with the courage to stand up for this country are:

  1. Ron Barber AZ, 2nd District
  2. John Barrow GA, 12th District
  3. Mike McIntyre NC, 7th District
  4. Patrick Murphy FL, 18th District
  5. Collin Peterson MN, 7th District
  6. Nick Rahall WV, 3rd District

All six of these courageous Democrats also later voted on House Resolution 565 which calls on Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr.,* to appoint a special counsel to investigate the targeting of conservative nonprofit groups by the Internal Revenue Service. They joined 20 other Democratic representatives in voting for this resolution, the remaining 224 yea votes being Republicans. All 168 nay votes on this second resolution where Democrats.

*Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr., meanwhile, is the first sitting attorney general held in contempt of Congress in U.S. history after he withheld documents lawmakers demanded as part of an investigation into a gunrunning operation known as “Fast and Furious”. The vote was 255-67, with 108 Democrats abstaining.
