'How Many Millions'

How many millions must you kill
How many graveyards must you fill
To work the World to your will
How many millions must you kill?

Mick Jagger Forms Super Group

With Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Damian Marley, and AR Rahman: one Stones frontman, one Eurythmics founder, one English soul singer, plus Bob Marley's youngest son, and India's most famous film composer. They call themselves "Super Heavy".

The super group has four vocalists, so Jagger does "other things" besides singing, including playing guitar and a producing lots of "high energy" mouth organ. The music is informed by all of the band's contributors, ranging "from reggae to ballads to Indian songs in Urdu".

Super Heavy was Stewart's idea, inspired by the sounds washing into his home in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica.

“Poets drown in lakes.”
Bob Dylan to Paul Zollo in 1991.

"Johnny One Time"

by Dallas Frazier and Arthur L. Owens, Sr.

So he told you that you're the dream that he's been searching for
And he told you that he's never met anyone like you before
And I can hear him telling you, your lips taste just like sherry wine
But did he tell you that he's known as 'Johnny One Time'.

Did he tell you that your heart will soon become
Another trinket on his bracelet of broken hearts?
Did he tell you that the morning sun will find you
Patching up your shattered pride and searching for the missing parts?

Did he tell you that the special love you're saving
Will disappear in flames of shame like mine?
Did he tell you that he's known as 'Johnny One Time'.

So he told you that he'd never lead your heart astray
And he told you that he'd love you forever and a day
And I can hear him telling you that he's the shy and bashful kind
But did he tell you that he's known as 'Johnny One Time'.

Did he tell you that your heart will soon become
Another trinket on his bracelet of broken hearts?
And did he tell you that the morning sun will find you
Patching up your shattered pride and searching for the missing parts?

And did he tell you that the special love you're saving
Will disappear in flames of shame like mine?
Did he tell you that he's known as 'Johnny One Time'?

"Picky, Snicky, and Wicky"

Picky, Snicky, and Wicky
Went into the candy store
You pick! to them said Picky
For me it's such a chore.

So Snicky grabbed
And Wicky bagged
And they headed
Out the door.

Wait! cried Picky
My favorite kind!
Can't we add just one more?

Narrative Poems: April 2011

According to my trusty site traffic counter, the one my 'web guy' set up with my site, the narrative poem index is one of the top traffic getters--fourth biggest, in fact. This seems to relate to general demand developing for this type of thing, not so much for my works specifically (though a few seem to be coming in with my name attached, or for specific titles).

Popular in April

  1. "The Man Who Wrote Shakespeare"
  2. "An End to War"
  3. "Confession"
  4. "Dionysus"
  5. "I Asked the Angels"
  6. "Bellerophon"
  7. "The Man Who Saved History"
  8. "The Man Who Conquered the World: Beginnings"
  9. "The Man Who Gave All the Dreamers in Baseball Land Bigger Dreams to Dream"
  10. "The Day God Invented Bluegrass"

Narrative poems trumped all the other types, none of the others scoring more than one or two in the Top 150 for the month.

"They Went and Killed Our Love"

They went and killed our love
. . Ripped it with a fury
Strangled our sweet turtle dove
. . Without a judge or jury.

"I Would Kill for Wi-Fi"

I would kill for Wi-Fi
. . Walk a mile for its blast
But, Lord above, hear my cry
. . Please make it wicked fast.
